For now…

The stock market had one of its strongest gains in years, helping asset growth.  It appears that interest rates are on the rise, helping liability reduction.  Of course, these two catalysts could change course tomorrow, creating volatility in the funding status of corporate or government related pensions.

Thus now may be the time for entities to transfer these pensions off their books to insurance companies, for example, who will create annuities for retirees while assuming the future liability risks.
